My friends call me Mazzy.
This channel is primarily about music and my record collection, however on occasion I will post something on another topic, which may not be of interest to the music or vinyl community. Please read the titles.
Norman Maslov , a native San Franciscan, is an Artist's Agent representing a small group of extremely creative commercial photographers. His agency, Norman Maslov, Agent Internationale was founded in 1986.
Mr. Maslov attended San Francisco State University studying Communications and Film, which led to a strange ten-year stint in the Recording Industry. Starting in retail record stores, he later moved on to promoting and marketing artists for MCA and ABC Records. Mr. Maslov is a passionate music lover, record collector and co-author of the very first travel guide of Beatles sites titled The Beatles' England.
He now lives just north of San Francisco in Seattle. Always snarky, never too serious.

How Do I Have The Time to Listen To So Much Music & Make Videos?
Silk Degrees is indeed silky. Its a yacht rock standard now. Love it.
Terrific segment! Thanks!!
I have both Mel Martin/Listen LPs....good stuff
A great great singer
Nice video Mazzy. I have the Warner/Rhino 2016 reissue of 2012 remaster, 180g version, which has a green label on the vinyl and also has Wicked World on side 2. It is mint condition on both the jacket and vinyl. It is not the version which is sold out on the Rhino website. Have not played it yet, but I will. Also looking to buy an original American 1970 pressing for my collection for comparison. Curious, wouldn't a great pair of audiophile headphones work better as a reference than a stereo system for comparing different pressings?
Going to be at St. Pete Pride!! Have a fun auction!!
Alfie!
I had to laugh with you when you held up the Lawrence Welk Polka album. What’s the difference between a Moose 🫎 and the Lawrence Welk Orchestra? … On a Moose, the horns are up front and the asshole is in back!
Boz is one of my favorites. I still listen to his music often. "The Dukes of September" tour brought together three of my all-time loves: Boz, Donald Fagen & Michael McDonald.
Some Change is very underrated album.
I really like "Down 2 then left" as well though it is very MOR. Great artist.
I was looking forward to getting the remix, but i pulled out my old cd of the album and listened. I decided i actually don't like it outside of a couple tracks. I'll try & listen again but i don't think that will change my mind.
Sonny Rollins Alfie 👍
Some Change is a good album. The title track is a little bluesy, but most of it is pretty mellow (in a good way)
My first Winterland concert was Traffic in 1972, with Dave Mason as special guest. The "Low Spark" and "Canteen" period. Fantastic! I saw them again in 1973 when you did. The "Shootout" period. Also great. What a wonderful, and inexpensive ($4 or so), experience the Winterland shows were!
Yeah lived going there almost weekly
Charles Lloyd was the first jazz artist that I've ever saw. He was at the Avalon Ballroom with John Hammond and the Screaming Nighthawks.
Very cool 😎
McCartney b sides are sometimes better then the a.
Hi Mazzy - long time - no speak.... Hey, Boz is sooooo very cool. We saw him in 2006, or so, (as I recall...) at a theatre in Philly. He was absoltuley great. But the unique thing was at that show, he played at such an LOW volueme.... it was the most unique show that I've seen in that regard ,in my life - but he was great. Boz is cool. I love that "Dig"album, so many fantatic songs on there, "King of El Paso" among them.. And, as far "Silk Degrees" goes - we LIVED with that album in my dormatory at college in those years - so many great memories of that, and that time in '77, and onward. Okay, I gotta get that "Fool to Carel" record!!!! Peace out from over here on the East Coast, my brother....
Thank you. Cool music ✌🏼🎸
Wanna do it, couldn’t do it a half a year back. Tried but didn’t work.
🤷🏻♂️🕺🏽
I remember purchasing the John Lennon solo album Mind Games upon first release featuring the title track, which peaked at 18 US Billboard and 10 Cashbox and in Japan peaked at 46. Many Beatles fans bought the album and reviews of Mind Games was moderate at best. I seen for myself the music critics seeing John Lennon and his message weak and the other three, Paul, George, Ringo putting out much stronger material in their albums. Each former Beatle, especially Paul, had exception album and Single release material. It was Yoko's idea to put strong musicianship on her Sphinx Album and follow with John's Mind Games. Thanks to Yoko, the album is saved but Feeling the Space, I believe, at least back then, was a much stronger album and seemed focused on the subject matter, where John's lyrics are some of his weakest moments in his life. He was writing more stark and precise lyrics on every Beatles album, but Mind Games songs do not have that Lennonesque bite or energy. The question I have is "why" ? Why spend hundreds and thousands of dollars on this ? We've heard the tracks and I know Sean has really improved John's voice and music. But, really why? I won't buy the Mind Games because I bought the album for 5 bucks and I loved it. But these days, where people are foolishly spending on rehashed material is totally insane. People are going to food banks or losing jobs, high rent, high groceries. The Lennon Estate goes right against John Lennon's own words, about "greed" and "hunger". Then people who buy these, 'store" them. It is insane. You buy to play, not store, folks. Then all these gimmicks in the box set like the light on the cd is insane. In a few years, I guarantee you that you will have forgotten most of Mind Games trivia and I know that after 10 plays, you will be so bored with the album. I know you really want this 'masterpiece" of John's to be successful. But it's not that good of music. The song writing is weak at best. Take care.
Yet John had a mansion out side London. A painted Rolls, several apartments in the Dakota. A farm upstate New York. There are many great songs in the record but got do buried in the original mix 🎸🥁
Notable omissions. Not a single filler song on any of these Led Zeppelin I, Led Zeppelin III Jimi Hendrix, "Are you Experienced?" and "Electric Ladyland" The Doors = first album Bob Dylan - first album Blind Faith - only album Judy Collins, "In my Life" Burl Ives, "The wayfaring Stranger" Wishbone Ash - first album Bonus, "The Worst of Jefferson Airplane"
So happy to see someone finally ranking the albums of my favorite vocalist, Boz Scaggs, but the task is much easier when you’re leaving out Some Change and Fade Into Light, both of which are in my own top five. It’s like trying to rank the Beatles albums without having to include Rubber Soul and The White Album.
I’ll eventually pick those up 🎸
Who farted?
Auctions... This is a great reminder that you can't take them with you. 😢
Thanks, so much!! Boz is my favorite male vocalist and I love almost all of his music. I think you might mean Jo Baker from Elvin Bishop's band at the time. I see several others say good things about Some Change, absolutely worth a listen. Boz, the real Boss! peace
I was in middle school and I remember going out and buying silk degrees I also liked middleman too
1976 silk degrees
I think you were referencing Slow Dancer.
Yes I added an * and correction in the description
I missed that. I really liked this informative ranking!
Boz is a fairly recent discovery for me. I knew of Lido but that was about it....until I saw/heard " Desire " quite by accident on UA-cam. I immediately bought the Dig album, and now I'm only missing 2 or 3 from his catalogue. My favourites ( at the moment) are Dig, Some Change and Come On Home. It's so nice to discover a new (to me) favourite artist at 55 years old. I have indeed been missing out......... I'm now going to listen to Boz Scaggs Band album again, after your glowing review. Love your channel.😊
Some Change is fantastic..............and hard to get on vinyl.
So glad you’re covering Boz Scaggs, such a great musician and so underrated as so. I also like Moments by Boz Scaggs, I had a Japanese reissue on CD that was a lot brighter sounding when I lived in Seattle. My uncle David got me into Boz back in the late ‘70s early 80’s, he had Silk Degrees and the follow up on 8 track.
This weekend is the 2nd heat wave in Bakersfield. 107 degrees Saturday and Sunday.
Only 83 here ☀️
There's a new "Official" version of the Beyonce album out next Fri. It has a nice booklet this time, and every song that's on the digital download. The CD was missing songs as well. It has one more song than the first vinyl edition you got. Hopefully they upgrade the CD, too. "Cowboy Carter" is my #5 album of the year, so far. The Last Dinner Party's 'Prelude To Ecstasy" is my favorite album of the year. They are an all-female "theatrical" UK rock band.
You mentioned a purge. Is that important due to self imposed restraints or some other reason, such as taste changes? Steve Miller is on my top ten bands!!
In 1995 I sold one third of my vinyl records thinking that CDs were the better future. Mistake.
Ease up on the manhandling of the records Mazzy 😬 Also, your cameraman's finger was in the shot. You may want to explore other options 😅
It wasn’t my finger 😆
Where is the auction?
@@toddbromgard5211 right here
Some great records there! Will definitely be watching tomorrow😎
Another chance to see The Waxed! I used to watch Welk with my grandmother!
Icon piece of vintage television we will never see again.
That intro to "Lowdown" with the drums and popping bass gets me every time. It just explodes. And it's such a killer song that was all over the R&B radio stations in 1976. It became such a funky summer groove and was easily one of the finest soul records of that year.
💯 agree with Mazzy. Press to Play is a great album.... McCartney has done some fantastic work and is my favourite artist both with Wings and Solo. Thanks Mazzy
well im going to dig my boz scaggs vinyl out because of this ,didnt know he was in the steve miller band ....
Hey Mazzy fantastic video. At the end there I think you meant to say Slow Dancer not Silk Degrees. I remember you did a thing on Boz Scaggs a few years ago. I'm a huge fan with most of his albums just missing a few of the newer ones. My favorite has always been My Time. It just gets me every time I throw it on. Anyway I'm heading to Seattle tomorrow for my daughter's graduation. I missed you when you came to Vancouver. I did send you an email but my account was acting up and apparently you never got it. I know it's a little short notice now but it would be an honor to meet up with you.
Yeah I switched the times that why I added the * and correction in the description
My favorite is still Silk Degrees, it’s got groove. I tried to get into his other albums in the past but I wasn’t feeling them.
Well, I think his later albums are not as commercial as Silk Degrees. Boz has been making a lot of blues based music and he did an album or two of jazz standards. I think it’s safe to say that there will not be a Silk Degrees part 2
No mention of Some Change - this would be my number 1 Boz album
I mentioned at the beginning the four albums I no longer have, so those were not included 🎸
Really helpful vid Mazzy. Please check out Some Change - it’s great 👍
Some Change is a terrific album, Mazzy. Worth checking out. Think you'd like it.
Solid run down for one of the truly great vocalists. Just listened to Middle Man/Silk Degrees/Down Two, Then Left back-to-back. I know DTTL got a mention but surprised it didn't make the cut. Buy hey it's your list. Thank Mazzy!
I no longer have DTTl. Didn’t include the few I don’t still own.
@@mazzysmusic That's right - I should listen for comprehension.
Boz' voice always brings to mind Billy Paul, to me. I love Memphis and Out Of The Blues. I grew up with Steve Jordan. My father and his father were best friends!!
I don't know why Mazzy keeps apologizing for liking great records. When I was at the college FM, at least some of us student DJs were happy to play *Silk Degrees* in the same hour (but probably not the same *set* ) as a cut off The Jam's *Setting Sons* (BTW, I haven't replaced either of those LPs in my library with CDs... yet!)
Sir Mazzy. For me this ranks in your top ten vids. I am a huge Boz Scaggs fan. I personally turned on many friends early onto to Boz. I have a copy of Moments - Japanese pressing . Huge improvement sonically. One Boz catalog unit missed on your count down (in my humble opinion) - Boz Scaggs Greatest Hits Live. In my personal top 5. I have the DVD and the double CD versions. Year 2004. Recorded at Great American Music Hall. San Francisco.
Hi Mazzy, Cmon home is available on vinyl released several years after the original release and it is wonderful.
